Triangle Offense
There are a lot of basketball plays used against the 3-2 Zone Defense. The Triangle offense is one of them. This offense is not the popular version used by the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA but a simpler triangle.
The weakness of the 3-2 Zone defense is in the corner and high post areas. The play position is that our two guards outside parallel to each other. On the side where the ball is, another guard is waiting in the corner three point area while the center or forward form a hi-lo post just outside the paint. This position creates the triangle.
The play starts with the point guard outside passing to the opposite guard. As the pass is being made, the three other players move simultaneously. The high post player moves to the other low post and then screens the defender there. The low post player then moves to the opposite high post and gets ready for a possible pass. The corner guards runs baseline towards the opposite corner. The screener moves out of the screen and positions well on the low post. When this is done, the players have created again the triangle on the opposite side.
The first scoring option comes when the top defenders double team the point guard. The point guard can then dish the ball into the high post player. The high post player can then take the shot. If not a hi-lo movement can be between the high post player and the low post. And finally the high post can pass it out to the shooter waiting at the corner for the open three point shot.
Alternately, the point guard can directly pass the ball to the corner where it can immediately shoot the ball but if defended well, he can pass it to high post where again shoot the ball or drive to the basket. These Basketball Plays work well when the defense rotation of the opposing team is not correct. This is when the low post defender comes out of the screen and guards the corner. This leaves one defender against the high and low post creating a two on one situation.
